Counselling for Depression and Anxiety

COUNSELLING FOR DEPRESSION

No two people experience depression the same way, and one of the strongest ideas that can accompany depression is “I’m alone”. In seeing a professional, we can be supported and helped throughout our own experience of the low times. Whether this is by looking at how actions and thoughts are bringing our feelings down or just having a space to process the difficulties. Whatever is most helpful.

Feelings of depression are not always straight forward and cannot necessarily be ‘switched off’ instantly by a therapist. However, in counselling sessions, clients are given tools to understand triggers of low feelings, helped through establishing plans in response to these triggers, and can feel empowered in long-term self-help techniques for low feelings.

Learning New Strategies through Counselling for Depression and Anxiety

Are you interested in exploring counselling for depression and anxiety? The pressures of contemporary life can be overwhelming, especially when so many others seem to be living an Instagram-perfect life — but everyone has their own personal struggles to face. Whether you feel a constant low-grade anxiety that makes daily tasks difficult or a depression that connects to other areas of concern in your life, there are options for equipping yourself to handle these mental challenges better.

Things You Can Learn from Counselling for Stress and Depression

There’s generally no "instant off" switch for feelings of depression, and it can be difficult to emerge from. However, I strive to use evidence-based approaches to provide clients with strategies that may help improve their situation. Our sessions can help you to learn things such as:

  • What the most likely triggers for your depression are, as well as how to identify the biggest stressors in your life.

  • Formulating action plans and modes of response when you identify a trigger influencing your mood.

  • The importance of opening up to discuss your feelings instead of bottling them up inside. While I work to provide clients with active strategies they can use, sometimes it helps just to talk.

Problems That Alcohol and Depression Counselling Can Help to Address

In some cases, substance abuse may play a role in your concerns; there is often a link between excessive alcohol consumption, for example, and depression. Counselling for these concerns may provide help with:

  • Difficulty understanding what drives deleterious behaviours.

  • Feelings of helpless or aimlessness. When you've suffered from depression and the influence of substances for long periods, it can feel like there is no alternative. We can work together towards understanding other healthier ways to cope with stress and low feelings.

  • A sense of failure because of ongoing concerns.

Though it is easy to feel alone in your struggles, it's important to remember the opposite is true — there is a network of support waiting for you to reach out.
