men’s issues
The main reason I started working as a counsellor, and eventually a psychologist was in response to the growing need in the community of Australian men for effective counselling services. Men often suffer their issues alone. This may be from stigma around seeing a therapist, fear of appearing weak, fear of facing weakness or some other reason. I want to move against this culture.
My dream is that men would be able to seek help for depression or addictions without stigma or awkwardness. That men’s issues would be spoken about freely among other men and in the community more broadly. I want to see older men encouraging younger men to seek help, to be vulnerable and to be brave. I want to see young men admitting that they need help managing their anger well before they act out. I believe this is entirely possible.
